Anna van der Breggen has finished second in the Dutch Time Trial Championship in Bergen op Zoom. After 25,8 kilometers, the 28-year-old Van der Breggen was only six seconds behind the winner Ellen van Dijk. Chantal Blaak and Amy Pieters, who also participated for Boels-Dolmans in the national championship, were fifth and sixth, respectively.
Van der Breggen, who was also second in the world championship last year, but behind Annemiek van Vleuten, won the national time trial title in 2015 and finished third last year after Van Vleuten and Van Dijk. Neverthless Van der Breggen was happy with her performance in today’s time trial. “I am very happy with my performance. I have gave everything, and that is all I can do. Then I am faster than Annemiek this time and now Ellen is faster than me. You know in advance that you have to be very strong on the day of the Dutch Championships and that everything has to go the way you wanted it to go if you want to become a time trial champion in the Netherlands. I can live with the result and I am happy with how I raced today. Fortunately for me there are more chances to come with the European Championships in Glasgow early August and the World Championships in Innsbruck in September.", thus the Olympic road champion who will now turn her focus on mountain biking. She will compete in the World Cup in Val di Sole in July.
On Saturday, the Dutch Championship will continue with the road race over 141 kilometers in Hoogerheide.
