Boels-Dolmans Cycling Team is proud to announce Anna van der Breggen has extended her contract with the team. The Olympic champion has committed to another two years with the Dutch team, wearing the Boels-Dolmans colours through 2020.
Van der Breggen is the second Dutch rider to extend her contract with the number 1 team in the world, after world champion Chantal Blaak announced her contract extension at the team presentation in January. Now Van der Breggen follows suit, joining Blaak at Boels-Dolmans for seasons 2019 and 2020.
For team manager and sports director Danny Stam, having the option to keep the most impressive cyclist of her generation within the team wasn’t a difficult choice to make.
“Anna is not only a very talented rider, she’s also a true team player and a great asset to the team as a person,” said team manager Danny Stam. “When you have to possibility to re-sign the strongest rider in the peloton, you shouldn’t think twice.”
Already a celebrated cyclist and the reigning Olympic champion when joining Boels-Dolmans Cycling Team in 2017, Van der Breggen has bolstered her results list with some impressive wins during her year and a half with the team. Her biggest victories include the Ardennes triple in 2017, her fourth straight Flèche Wallonne win in 2018, the Giro Rosa win (2017), her victory in the Tour of Flanders (2018) and the overall Women’s WorldTour win last year. She has earned five medals in World Championship events, was the 2016 European road race champion and won a total of eleven Women’s WorldTour races so far.
“I’m happy to have re-signed with Boels-Dolmans,” said Van der Breggen. “The team, its staff and dedicated sponsors are a tremendous support in letting us achieve the absolute maximum result. I feel at home with Boels-Dolmans and cannot wait to pursue further success with this team in the years to come.”
Next week, Van der Breggen will attempt to swap her orange Boels-Dolmans outfit for a red, white and blue jersey at the national championships. The Dutch time trial championships are held on Wednesday 27 June, the road race follows on Saturday 30 June.
