Christine Majerus has won the penultimate round in the Skoda Cross Cup, the national series of cyclocross races in her home country Luxembourg, on Sunday. It was the second victory of the week for the Luxembourg champion and her third podium finish in the first seven days of the new year.
“Today was mostly a race against myself and hoping my legs were answering well,” Majerus said. “My trip last weekend was pretty tiring, so I was afraid I wasn’t going to be fully fresh. But it felt actually okay.”
“The course was nice and in general rideable – very different from last weekend,” Majerus explained. “I wanted to have a good training day, so I did more laps before and raced fifty minutes in total.”
“I will now do another good block of training next weekend, also training prior to nationals,” Majerus continued. “Then nationals of course and I will be back in international races at the Nommay and Hoogerheide World Cups.”
Meanwhile in the Netherlands, Anna van der Breggen also entered ánd won a national cross race in Didam. After having won a cross race in Boxtel on Christmas Eve, the Olympic champion is trying her luck at the national cyclocross championships next weekend, racing in Didam as a final preparation for that. In the freezing cold, she dominantly soloed to the win.
Next weekend is all about nationals for Majerus and Van der Breggen. The women’s races are held on January 13 in both countries. The Luxembourg championships are held in Kayl and start at 2pm CET. Van der Breggen will line up an hour later in Surhuisterveen.
