After a strong and clever ridden race, Jip van den Bos wins her first ever race with the elite.
The 22 year old Van den Bos rides her third season with the Boels Dolmans team. Last year Van den Bos had a troublesome season. After her crash in the Tour of Great Brittain, her 2018 season ended prematurely, focussing on her recovery and the new season.
Van den Bos knows an amazing opening of the 2019 season with a third place at Omloop het Nieuwsblad last weekend and now this amazing victory at Le Samyn.
Five kilometers for the finish she sprinted away from the 7 leaders. She managed to stay ahead and finished solo on the finishline in Dour, securing her first win as a pro-rider.
Van den Bos wasn't feeling that great at the start of the race. After a couple of kilometers the feeling improved.
The last few editions of Le Samyn she always felt that this could be her race. “We soon noticed that when Chantal or Jolien was in the break away they didn’t get the room they needed to stay ahead. When I broke away with 6 other riders we got the space we needed to stay ahead.
I looked around me and saw some pretty fast girls. I was in doubt. Should I rely on the sprint or break away. Thank god the lead increased so I could discuss this with Danny in the team car. He said if you are feeling good enough, don’t wait, break away, that is the safe approach. I gave everything I had to break away and stay ahead the last 5 kilometers and that worked out fine. This first victory is really cool and tastes like more."
