After stage 2 of the Cape Epic we spoke briefly to Annika Langvad about the first three days in the race. After Stage 2 Annika and Anna have a lead of 7.50m over their Swiss-Polish rivals.
The first two race days were brutal Annika tells us: "We went really hard into the first two days of the race. Almost attacked from the beginning of the stage. That strategy brought us this lead however costs a lot of energy, we were bloody tired." Today at stage 2 we changed our strategy a bit. Took again a win, increased our lead and actually felt better after the race than previous days. We are very happy with this win today."
This is the second time that bAnnika and Anna ride together in a MTB race since their victory in the Sunshine Cup on Cyprus. "Working together and riding with Anna is really, really cool. We have found our ritme and speed and form a great team."
Annika and Anna ride their Cape-Epic on a full-suspension Specialized Epic. "The bike performs very well. We have chosen for a fully instead of a hardtail because of the comfort on the bumpy track. Besides that we have less risk of flat tires."
We will keep track of the Epic adventure of the Boels-Dolmans teammembers the next few days.
